THE CONCERT CELEBRATING WOMEN IN MUSIC - SATURDAY 24th FEBRUARY 2001 - SYDNEY
THANKS TO JAVI FOR THIS REVIEW WHICH WAS POSTED TO THE MAILING LIST:-

Sheena came on around 9:30pm with four female dancers and sang six songs:

1) Love Is In Control - great choice for opener.

2) Don't Leave Me This Way - the dancers came out with mirrorballs the size of volleyballs and danced around with them. When the crowd heard the opening bars of the song, they recognised it and there was a big cheer.

3) Can't Take My Eyes Off You - the dancers came onstage with big feather fans and danced around, at one point hiding Sheena who kept peeping through the feather fans. This number was cute. Again, the crowd cheered when they recognised the opening bars.

4) Get Here To Me - the dancers each came out holding the front part of a bike, a reference to lesbians (dykes on bikes, etc) and Sheena said, "Meals on wheels," which got a great reception from the crowd. They loved her joke.

5) Giving Up Giving In - a great performance of a great song. Sheena said goodnight and thanked Australia for making it feel like home.

6) Morning Train (9 To 5) - Sheena came back for an encore with a great solo from her saxophonist. At this point, all the acts of the night came onstage as this was going to be the finale and they all sang along with Sheena. There was also a young girl from the audience who had earlier danced onstage between acts as a filler and she was up there onstage once more with Sheena and they danced together. The girl was holding two pompoms and Sheena took one and shook it a bit.

MARDI GRAS PARTY - SATURDAY 3RD/SUNDAY 4TH MARCH 2001 - SYDNEY
Javi posted the following review to the mailing list..."Sheena performed at the closing show at 10am on Sunday morning. She was joined onstage by ten dancers (6 men, 4 women) and they wore white pants and a big afro wig. The girls also wore a bra. The guys were topless. On either side of the stage there was a male sign language interpreter also wearing the same costume as the dancers. The interpreters sign the lyrics to the song for the deaf and hearing impaired. On top of the stage, there was a big frame (which was meant to be a mirror) and Sheena written above it. They started playing the opening bars of Giving Up Giving In and I got so excited. Sheena at Mardi Gras!!! How cool is that! A revolving stage revolves and finally reveals Sheena. She stands under the frame and pretends she's fixing her hair (it's meant to be a giant mirror). She's wearing this beautiful white beaded gown. She's looking very classy and elegant. So chic! She obviously has trouble getting down the stairs and so one of the dancers holds her hand so she doesn't fall.

She bursts into the song strutting all over the stage with lots of attitude to complement the lyrics of the song. She's totally hot. She goes to one of the interpreters and flirts with him, running her fingers down his bare chest. Ahhhhhh. Then she goes to the other side of the stage and flirts with the other dancer, getting really close as if almost about to kiss. The crowd is loving it all! What a great climax to a great party! When she finishes the song, they let out some fireworks on the stage. So cool.

A man comes up to the stage with a bouquet of flowers and hands it to Sheena. She leans over to give him a kiss and he turns to kiss her on the cheek and she says, "No, on the lips!" They kiss on the lips and as the man is walking off the stage, he turns to the crowd and does a thumbs up sign. He's ecstatic about getting kissed by Sheena.

She addresses the crowd and says that she is very honoured to be closing the 2001 Mardi Gras. She says that she was promised the biggest party in her 20-year career but she tells the crowd that there's still more to come. She urges the crowd to go out and keep partying and to show the world how proud we are of who we are. She tells us to celebrate our pride, celebrate our strength and celebrate our individuality. And finally she says, "Party safe, but party HARD!" And then the lights dim and my Australian Sheena experience also comes to a close.

SPECIAL THANKS TO JAVI FOR KEEPING US INFORMED THROUGHOUT SHEENA'S PROMOTIONAL TRIP TO AUSTRALIA!

27th Feb: ROVE LIVE Interview.  Comments from Mark who saw the show:- "...on ROVE she was great, very funny, relaxed and looking great in a gold jacket." Comments from Javi "...Sheena was in fine form, making quite a few jokes along the way and clearly just having fun. When Rove asked Sheena if she was a fan of David Cassidy's, she said, "I liked him...until we worked together." And she said she'd better not say anything more unless her lawyer was present. And when Rove told Sheena that Roger Moore once said that Sheena was more beautiful than any of the Bond girls, Sheena said, "He was drinking at the time."
28th Feb: GOOD MORNING AUSTRALIA Interview and live vocal performance of 'Giving Up Giving In' with two female dancers. Comments from Javi who saw the show:- "...She was her usual funny self. Again they talked about David Cassidy and Prince. They discussed the tensions between Sheena and David and Sheena did admit that they weren't exactly friends. Bert [the host] then said something like "So you didn't sleep with him or have coffee with him?" And Sheena said, "I certainly didn't have coffee with him." Also they were talking to Bert's pianist who had written a song for the Olympics album which went double platinum, to which Sheena said, "My last album went double plastic."
