Sheena Easton Inks New Record Deal with Universal Records - March 10, 2000

Sheena Easton has inked an international recording deal with Universal Records. Recording for a high energy dance album will begin in April in Las Vegas, during breaks from At the Copa in which Easton stars opposite David Cassidy.

Because of lackluster sales of Easton's last release, 1995's My Cherie, MCA Records decided not to renew Easton's contract. She kept busy performing concerts and in theatre, and also managed to release two CDs in Japan, 1997's Freedom and 1999's self produced Home.

While no release date has been set as of yet, speculation is that the album will be released late summer in Europe and Japan, where Easton still has her largest following, and in the Fall in North America. No producers have been announced, though the album will reportedly try to capture the London club sound with the hope of making this a comeback year for the pop diva.

Sheena Easton to Co-Star with David Cassidy in Vegas Show - December 4, 1999

Sheena Easton announced as Co-Star for David Cassidy's 'At The Copa' Production Show at the Rio Resort, Las Vegas

David Cassidy announced today that previews for his latest Las Vegas extravaganza, "David Cassidy at the Copa," will begin Jan. 18, 2000 at the Rio All-Suite Casino Resort, a subsidiary of Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. Co-starring in the high-energy production show is international recording and theatrical star Sheena Easton.

Cassidy will not only star in the show, but will serve as creative force behind the scenes. From the music, to the theatrics to staging, both Cassidy and Easton will pull from their many successes on Broadway, television and in the music industry for a sexy, high-energy, rhythmic theatrical production unlike anything Las Vegas has seen before. The show will also feature the largest orchestra in Las Vegas with music spanning the last 50 years of the twentieth century. Easton and Cassidy will also perform their hits and a few new songs.

Cassidy has had tremendous success in Las Vegas, where he put EFX at the top of box office successes, and most recently with "The Rat Pack is Back," which he wrote and produced with impresario Don Reo.

Easton has helped Broadway shows like "Man of La Mancha" and "Grease!" become major box office draws over the past nine years. She is also a hot ticket on the Vegas circuit where she regularly performs to sell-out crowds.

Sheena Easton Sues Indie Label - February 4, 1998

Sheena Easton has filed suit in Los Angeles Superior Court against an independent record label she claims had promised to release her new album in conjunction with a re-release of her older works. The singer, best known for the James Bond title track "For Your Eyes Only" and the suggestive "Sugar Walls," seeks unspecified damages against the MSH Entertainment Group and its owners on allegations of breach of contract and negligent misrepresentation. The MSH owners are identified in the suit as Richard Schulenber, Denny Diante, and Robert Maerz.

"Defendants, and each of them, represented orally and in writing that MSH would license master recordings of Ms. Easton's musical performances, release Ms. Easton's current album (as well as other albums in the future), and finance and distribute a video," the suit reads. Easton's lawyers say the Scottish chanteuse lost an international distribution deal with another label because of MSH, and further allege that the company courted her "in order to issue and sell stock to potential investors who would be attracted to the company."

So far, the company has managed to attract country singer T.G. Sheppard and former Who bassist John Entwhistle, who contributed a track to MSH's soundtrack album for a children's show called Van-Pires. Representatives at MSH did not comment on the suit.
