SHEENA EASTON 'Fabulous'

80s power pop queen re-casts herself as disco diva

There's money in them there hills. After a decade of fitness videos and unremarkable ballads, Sheena Easton is now going straight for the pink pound - like Lulu and Kylie before her - with an album of disco covers.
Produced by Ian Masterson and Terry Ronald (Kylie, Geri Halliwell), these are lush, unashamed Hi-NRG versions of such classics as Don't Leave Me this Way, Never Can Say Goodbye and the Three Degrees' Giving Up, Giving In. One can't really go wrong with tunes like these, but Easton still manages to sound strangely lifeless. That is apart from a heartfelt version of On My Own, which is much more affecting than Patti Labelle and Michael McDonald's original 80s hit. A mixed bag then.
